Week after Argus.

Ok my Argus wasnt fast, 6hours 23 minutes but I enjoyed every minute of it. The wind was a bit bad but in the end it saved me for the last stretch. At work all hell broke loose. Harvesting is starting a lot earlier than we expected. Worked my bud of this past week but hope to get on top of it all next week. Satsumas streaming in. So "Diewers pakstoor" starts packing on Teusday. Hello new season. Should see my Argus tan. Will put a picture up.

The Argus.

Wel the wind has been blowing the whole night on Saturday. Sunday morning dawns and the wind is screaming. Freezing cold at the start. We got of to a good ride without getting blown of our bicycles.Climing up to UCT was like riding up Suikerbossie. The blue ruite wasnt any better. You realy had to dig deep to stay at 20km an hour average. Boyesdrive was not easier. First walking for the day. Simonstown was straight into the south easter. Now it was not fun any more. Then the run back to Noordhoek some wind from behind and then straight into it. We hit Chappies and the cramps realy started. No more fun.Around Chappies we had the wind from behind and sometimes from the front.Down into Houtbay was a joll, only sometimes a bit of a headwind.O golly Suikerbossie no wind and heat.Look in the picture an d see my shiny arms. Then the best part of the race started. Downhill and suddenly screaming head winds, and a nasty climb out of Campsbay. Then the longest 8km to the finish. Especially the last km and the distance to collect the medal. Not the end yet. Now we have to ride back to the city centre, that wasnt bad.First Argus done. Will tel you in my next Blogg what the time was. A couple of home brews and I am ok. Looking forward to next year.

Day before.

Whent with Diana to around the mountain in Paarl doing wine tasting. What an interesting day. We started at Fairview bought some cheese and bread then to Seidelberg for a tasting. There wonderfull 2007 Chardonay bubbly and then some tank samples of there latest whites.Next on the line was Windmeul cellar, some tank samples and then some of there ordanary wines, realy nice braaivleis Pinotage. Ridgeback next where we tasted Viognier and Cab frank barrel samples beautiful and going to come out as a realy good wine. Then we were of to Ridgeback where we have never been. Nice wine and a nice tasting, what a nice place to picnick plus a nice restaurant. What a good way to carboload for Argus. Now we went to Nederburg that was realy average except for there white wine tank samples. Funny how many people were drinking the tank samples. We then went to another tasting just up the road that I would rather not mention. Laborie was the last one. Bubbly for R62 a bottle real MCC. There wines was realy nice and we bought some of them. Back home to realy carbo load.

What a good week of training.

Teusday night was a bit cooler and the ride was quite easy, realy enjoyed it. Average speed 24.5 km an hour. Wednesday night was up the mountain again and I got to the top long before the main team and felt good. Thursday we did the normal 28 km and also felt very good just cruised out and back. The funny thing about people cycling in Citrusdal is that none of them has got slime in there tyres in a thorne ridled enviroment. Something about the 200 grams of fluid wil make you slower than fixing 2 punctures a night. Same with clip-ins dont work straps are better, wel it is Citrusdal I dont need to explain any more. Drove the route today with a stop over at the Brass Bell in Kalkbay for fish and chips and a Peroni Draught got home exhausted chilling with a home brew.

Training in + 40 degrees.

Monday night 40 + temps at 5 45 but we deside we have to go for a ride. Nine km out and it felt6 like we are doing a 800 meter sprint burning chest and lame legs. Two weeks before Argus what is going on ? Must have been the heat because tonight , although hot was great fun again. Rode out slow against the wind and just cruised back and stil did 24 km an hour average. Felt good finishing. So should be ready for Argus.
